The Field Report

Fixes you can start this week to win more jobs.

A written report on how homeowners find and choose you online. I check you and the roofers you lose jobs to, the same way. Each fix says who does it and how long it takes. Every finding links to where I found it.

$647, one time. The preview is free and yours to keep. I’m not an agency, and I’m not after your web person’s job.

An example page one. The roofer, the competitors and the numbers are made up.

What you get.

Five parts, in the order you’ll read them. Page one and your top fixes take about 15 minutes to read. The rest is the proof behind them.

  1. 1. How you’re doing

Your report card next to three or four roofers near you, on the same checks: reviews and what customers praise, how your website works on a phone, whether your details match everywhere, your registration and manufacturer certifications, the local “best roofers” lists, and who is buying ads.

Also what ChatGPT and the other assistants say when someone asks for a roofer in your towns. I ask each one many times, because the answers change.

And how fast you answer: what you tell me on the form, what Yelp shows homeowners about each roofer, and, only if you say yes, one test request to your own business.

  2. 2. Where the work is

The towns near you with the most homes whose roofs are reaching 20 to 30 years old, how often homes there sell, and how often storms hit. Plus your year: when homeowners search, when storms come, and what to do in your slow months.

  3. 3. What to do

The fixes, in priority order. Each one is marked for you, for your web person, or for either, with how long it takes. Most take an afternoon or less. Then a few tools that fit what I found, with their prices. None of them pay me.

  4. 4. Why it matters

For each fix, the research behind it and what it can mean for your business. What one more roof is worth at your numbers. One or two numbers to watch, with a careful target, so you and I can see later whether they moved.

  5. 5. The proof

Every finding with the link to where I found it and the date I checked it. Click it and see for yourself.

And a note for your web person. A separate page you can forward to whoever runs your website, written as suggestions from someone on your side who wants your site to bring in more calls.

How it works.

If I already sent you a preview by email, you’re past the first step.

  1. Within 2 business daysYour free previewPage one, the list of everything I checked, and fix 1 written out in full.
  2. When you’re readyOne invoice, $647By PayPal invoice. Pay with a card. No PayPal account needed.
  3. About 12 minutesA short formWhich jobs you want, who you lose them to, and your numbers. A rough number is fine.
  4. Within 5 business daysYour Field ReportA PDF you can read on your phone or print.

After you read it.

A call about your business. About 45 minutes. You and I go through the fixes first. Then the bigger picture: the jobs you want more of, your slow months, your crew, and what’s next for the company. Bring whoever does your marketing if you like.

Check-ins at 30, 60 and 90 days. Short emails asking what changed. At 90 days I rerun the checks and send you a before-and-after. If something didn’t work, I want to know why.

$647

One time, for everything above.

A new roof averages about $8,200 in the US. If you keep about 25% of it as gross profit, one more roof brings in about $2,050. The Field Report costs about a third of that.

If it isn’t worth it to you, tell me within 30 days and I’ll refund it.

Roof average: This Old House, 2026, national average in its state-by-state comparison. Your own numbers may differ, and the form asks for them.

What you don’t get.

  • No contract. The Field Report is one purchase.
  • No referral fees. When I point you to a list or a kind of tool, it’s because it fits you. I don’t take money from any of them.
  • No marketing services. I don’t sell them, so your web person has nothing to worry about. The report is written so they can use it.
  • No hand-off. I do the checking myself, and I’m the one who answers your email.

Questions.

Who is it for?

Independent, owner-run roofing companies with more than five people, anywhere in the US. Any rating and any number of reviews. If your reviews are thin, the Field Report shows what the roofers near you are doing to get theirs.

Are you trying to replace my marketing company or web person?

No. I’m not an agency. I don’t sell marketing services or run ads, and I’m not after anyone’s job. Every fix is marked for you, for your web person, or for either. You also get a separate note you can forward to them, written as suggestions, with room for them to propose a different route. I’d rather work alongside them.

Why is it called a Field Report? Do you come out?

No visit. It’s all done online: your website, your Google listing, your reviews and the local lists, the same for the roofers near you, plus public records like Census and NOAA storm data. The name comes from Roofer Field Guide.

What will I actually do with it?

Start with fix 1. Most first fixes take under an hour: a listing with the wrong address, a phone number buried on your website, a form that asks too much. Every fix says who does it and how long it takes.

Do I have to get on a call?

No. Everything works by email. I do hope you take the call after you read your Field Report, because that’s where you and I talk about where the business is going. If you’d like to talk before you buy, book 15 minutes on the Talk page.

How do I know the findings are right?

Every finding links to the page where I found it, with the date I checked it. Before your Field Report goes out, every link and every number gets checked again. Data on the web has mistakes in it, so the report says “my check found,” and if you show me something I got wrong, I fix it.

How do you put it together?

I read public pages: your reviews and your competitors’, your listings, the local “best roofers” lists, your websites, and Census and NOAA storm records. I ask the chat assistants the questions homeowners ask. I use Claude to help gather and sort, and I check every finding before it goes in.

Why did I get an email from you?

Each week I check a few roofers whose work looks good from the outside, and I write to each one by hand with two or three things I found. If you want page one of your Field Report, reply and I’ll send it. If you’d rather not hear from me, reply “stop” and I won’t write again.

What if you don’t find much?

Tell me within 30 days of delivery and I’ll refund it. You keep the report.
